The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Review by Brian Lowry, Variety.

If the first "X-Files" movie landed in the midst of the TV show's run and near the height of its popularity, the second -- far more modest in scope and ambition -- comes six years after the program signed off. Both, however, share a common trait: Namely, neither would qualify as a better-than-average episode of the series. Director/franchise creator Chris Carter gives devoted fans plenty of small moments to swoon over, but the appeal should be limited beyond those fervent loyalists. So while the opening should be reasonably robust, this remains a movie primarily reserved for those wanting to believe in it.

I saw the movie last night, and yes it is like an X-Files episode. I recall that was the criticism about the first movie, that is WASN'T like an episode.

There is plenty of Mulder and Scully interaction. There are answers and questions about their relationship. Hint: For the final answer watch all of the credits!

The plot involves two sub-plots which tie together, although how they tie together was not easy to understand. I missed some clues and got more of it in discussing the movie afterward.

We do get a treat of one other character form the series appearing.

Not the best movie, but it isn't bad either. I'm glad I went to see it.
