I'm a big movie fan, so a lot of my cats are named after some of my favorite movie characters.  My current three cats are Tristan, who I named after one of King Arthur's knights from the 2004 movie; Indy, who is named after Indiana Jones; and Sunny (aka the Sundance Kid, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid).  Another cat that I had who passed away several years ago was called Conner, after Conner McLeod of the Highlander movies.

Some of my other cats have also been named after comic book and video game characters:  Mario and Luigi, and Rogue.

Hi Selini,

Great question!

I named my rats after Robin Hood and Maid Marian. I wanted them to have historical names, since they were attending historical events and faires. Since the original rat was a hooded rat (coloring), that made the name selection easy.

My dogs tend to name themselves. Loki, had a tendency to entertain herself by moving things in the house while I was out. One of the things she did was move the flowers out of the vase on the coffee table, without spilling a drop of water. She removed them with her teeth and then shredded them all over the living room carpet.

Since she had been so mischievous, I named her Loki after the Norse Gold of mischief.

Our latest dog a male silky terrier is named after a Georgia football player. His name is Jasper. After we found him we found that in some cultures that was a name of one of the Magi and since his birthday is on Epiphany that seemed even more appropriate.

Arabelle(Boo) is solid black which reminded me of a high school classmate who had the longest, blackest hair I ever saw. Her name was Arabelle & I loved it.

Of course, Boo just came out of nowhere.

I read about your and Boo's situation on the CBS board, and I'm so glad everything seems to be working out for both of you.  I hope you will be reunited very soon.

Bah, everyone knows that Indy is a dog's name!

The new Indiana Jones movie (due out next year) is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Karen Allen, who played Marion Ravenwood (some of you may better remember her as the lead in the movie Starman). Another character is named, "Mutt Williams" and so the speculation has been he must be Indy's son. Though supposedly that's just wishfull thinking based on the character having a 'dog's name' and being roughly the appropriate name.

So tell us, is Rogue the type of cat no one can touch?

I can't wait to see the Indiana Jones movie - that series has always been one of my favorites.

And Indy may be a dog's name, but to see how my cat swings around on his cat tree, climbs all over in high places and even makes the 6+ foot drop from the plant shelf to the floor, you'd have to say he certainly has Indy's adventurous spirit.  Not to mention his speeding around the house like it's the Indy 500 racetrack.  So technically, his name applies to him in more than just one way.

Rogue, who made his way to the Rainbow Bridge a few years ago, wasn't the type of cat no one could touch, although his sometimes very obnoxious personality might make you not want to

Now you have me envisioning a cat obstacle course where your cat has to avoid the huge rolling ball coming right at it! Quick call Lucas and Spielberg!

Believe me, sometimes Indy himself seems to be the rolling ball, but in miniature.  Sometimes he moves so fast, he could almost run a person over

Does that mean he's one of those Garfield sized kitties?

No, Indy only weighs about 8 lbs, but he sounds more like an elephant when he's running around.  And if you've ever been run into by a cat moving at full speed, even one who's that light, it can feel like you've been hit by a train!
