A Town Too Far pt1

Timeline: between ‘black jack’ & Heart of Winter (roughly)

Like waking from a deep sleep, Goetz’s primary senses began to bring him round, the smell of the soil, the buzzing of flies, the coppery taste of blood in his mouth, the sharp pain in his shoulder, he slowly opened his eyes to find he was face down, in a shallow ditch at the side of a dusty road.

His mind reeled as he tried to remember what happened, how did he get here?

He remembered entering the small town of Trinity.

It should have been easy pickings, clean out the town then get out – but as the Ravenwood team approached something ‘felt’ wrong it was too quiet, most small townships had armed groups to guard themselves, or at least a perimeter guard.

Goetz remembered looking towards the burnt out abandoned cars and trees at the side of the road, then something, a reflection in the trees… a trap!

“get down, take cov……”

shots fired out, his men falling down around him, a sharp hot pain in his shoulder an explosion everything white, feeling weightless then blackness…….

Taking care not to move too much, he lifted his head slowly, it was dusk, his hummer and truck were gone from the road, and except for the bodies of his team members and overturned cars, the road was empty.

Slowly and nursing his injured shoulder, he turned and continued to keep low and crawled along the ditch, until he rounded a corner and was out of sight of the tree line.

After walking for a few miles. Goetz came across a picnic and fishing area he sat down to take stock, of his situation, 3 months ago he was dodging bullets in Iraq, and he wasn’t about to die in front of , ‘Joe’s tackle n’bait shack’.

He emptied his pockets and dressed his wound the best he could and began eating a chunk of beef jerky, in his hands were his entire possessions, no guns, no ammo…he looked down to the drivers license he was holding, Eric Green, Jericho, Kansas.

He wouldn’t survive out here for long, and if he came across the townsfolk he had ‘encountered’ before he would be strung up, maybe he could survive by his wits, change his clothes, shave off the beard, and pay the little town of Jericho a visit…….

Great start! I can't wait to read what happens next.

For some reason the paragraph markings din't come through and that made it a bit difficult to read.

Sorry, I got caught up in your technical question before (those posts have been split off and put into the help sections now) and I realized that I didn’t comment on the original post.

Keep them coming. I think this is at least the third time I’ve read them.
