There's a conversation going on in the CBS Jericho Wiki about the Allied States, and they linked to our map for reference. (Yeah JKI!).

(The JKI map is under Hawkin's Notes.)

I thought JKI might want to start it's own discusison. Here's some questions to think about:

1. Do you feel this is a realistic division of the United States? (If something happened to divide the country would the states divide this way.)

2. What do you think is happening with Alaksa and Hawaii?

3. What is going on in Texas that they have become independent?

Alaska and Hawaii were not listed in the Allied States list, as provided by Carol Barbeee. I did notice that both of these states have offices for Jennings and Rall. I would imagine that there might be considerable influence by Jennings and Rall for them to join the Allied States.

What is your opinion?

Texas on its own makes sense but the Division of the country does too....What I wonder is will there be a inflict to re-unite the country into 1 again

Hi Airassault,

I think there will be a conflict to unite the country.

My take on your posts about the military bases, is that the Allied states (the 21 states west of the Mississippi) doesn't have enough military strength to hold that much territory. Is that correct?

Correct...Granted that the states west of the OL Mississippi have a good national Guard and reserve network but not nearly as many troops as the east can produce..nor do they have the hardware.

I wonder if (former) US, troops posted abroad (i.e. middle East & Europe) will come back and support their home states
or if they will try and re-secure a united Nation?
Also i wonder how foreign countries will react to the division, who will they support and provide aid to?
It will lead to interesting 2nd and hopefully 3rd,4ht etc,etc seasons

Well I think we know China is already providing aid of some sort. But the fact that the allied states needed China to make airdrops further exemplifies their lack of hardware and military power. I would think that troops overseas would answer to the East as that is the traditional seat of power. My overall assessment is that the East is the power broker hear and that Texas is more than capable of holding its own. But the real question is division of troops from their home states. I think if you were to break down military members you would find that more come from East of the Mississippi than west at about a 5 to 1 ratio. But if you go to the military strength thread I have a better breakdown for you.

In the Alternate Reality Game about Jericho, there are some hints that the Allied States are limiting communication and warning people not to travel (it isn't safe). This might be an indication of how weak the Allied States really is?

That would be one way to do it. But I don't think that tactic would last for more than say a year. And even less if outsiders start to show up for the east.

Another consideration would be the mindset of the survivors.  After all the trauma, the shock, they might be in a fearful and defensive state of mind that would prohibit their cooperating to reunite with other states to form a union again.  Desperate people do desperate things.   The other motivating factor that would disallow for unity would be egotistical gain and powermongers.   Everyone would be vulnerable unless they had a strong military presence and a good stable leader willing to influence the masses positively and work with other towns, states, etc.     (Did I really say all this?)

The mindset would be controlled via propaganda..thats where your power mongers comes in.

Oh, that is a great point, airassault!   At the level most people would be at (after being war-torn weary, etc.) they would be prone to believe anything.....propaganda.......   Of course, we have that even now where people believe everything they hear...... lol

Here is a link to one of the official messages from the Cheyenne Government (Allied States):

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=11298

The government is advising people not to travel and to remain in their locality.

I would think this is propaganda geared to keep everyone from finding out what is going on outside their local area.

That would be a very good way of controlling the populace. Keep them in the dark and be the only info provider for them. Smart short term propaganda tactic.

Thanks for the link, Ratkeeper.
Telling people not to travel outside their locale could serve many purposes:
1. The controlling of the masses factor by fear of the unknown.
2. Avoid  the chance that if the townspeople travelled outside, they may find conditions more conducive to life prior to the attacks.  Better conditions may exist somewhere.
3. Conceal the truth.   Just as it was thought initially that the world was flat & one would fall off the edge.  Until it was proven otherwise.

There's a blog from Trish, one of the new people in Jericho, on the Jennings and Rall website:

http://www.jenningsandrall.com/html/index.php?p=t2

Trish talks about her work in helping to rebuild communities.

Let's read and discuss the entries, keeping in mind this may still be part of the propaganda machine of the Allied States.

Here's another website, from an on-line newspaper of another small town: http://www.sakanasherald.com/sakanasherald/html/

The most recent entry is on the top.

Note: The recent entries are months ahead of the series. At the end of season one it was five months after the bombs fell.
