| Nope, not me. After getting the flu shot, I always got the flu. I'm doing better without one. |

If you get your flu shot early before you get exposed you won't get sick.
I posted this since there is a lady in my history group that in one week went from camping, to having the flu, to being in a hospital on a respirator.
Whatever this was (CDC has not gotten back to them) it is nasty and soon it will be making the rounds.

| You're probably right, it's just that I don't tend to get sick easily. I think the last time I had a cold/flu was probably about 4-5 years ago. Plus, they give you a shot with a NEEDLE! |

This year it will be two shots - the seasonal flu and the H1N1. The shots need to be six weeks apart, so get your seasonal flu shot now.
The woman who got sick is in her 30's and she is also an SCA heavy fighter (one of the few women knighted), so she led an active lifestyle and still got very very sick. She is still in critical, but stable condition.
I'm getting my first shot this weekend, so that I can get the H1N1 early in the flu season.
The pneumonia shot, which protects against bacterial pneumonia, you can get every 10 years. Bacterial pneumonia is a secondary infection that you can get after you've been sick.
This is the year to get the pneumonia shot if you've never gotten one.

Our family is getting their shots later this week. I'm in Maryland with 2 of my grand kids and my daughter in law, visiting my daughter. The year I did not get the flu shot, I got the flu so I'm on it |

All three of us got our shots on Sunday.
I agree with you - Kedzucat! The years before I got the shot I was always sick.
You do have to get it early in the season before you've been exposed. This is actually a few weeks before I normally get my shot, since I want to get the H1N1 shot too.

You can get the nasal spray in some places. |

The case in California, that caused me to post this, was identified by the CDC as swine flu. The woman is still in a hospital on a ventilator, but at least her doctors know what to treat her for.

I saw that, I just don't like to do drugs. About the only pill I take is an aspirin once in a while.

The woman in California has gotten worse, her kidneys shut down and she is now on dialysis. The doctor's don't expect any lasting damage.
Can you imagine how much this is going to cost? Hospitalization, being on a ventaltor and now dialysis all from the swine flu!
I think the swine flu is misnamed, since this is much worse than the ordinary flu! I am so glad that the vaccine will be available in a few weeks.
Gwen, who has chronic health problems and is not sure she could survive this flu

Gwen, I didn't mean to make light of the situation and I'm sorry if it came across that way. Please, please go get the flu shot. For many people, the flu shot is vital, and I hope they take advantage of it. |

Oh, I am sure neither Gwen or anyone else thought you were making light of things. Just people voicing a small concern about your health. When you said shot I just assumed you had a fear of needles and so pointed out the nasal alternative. |

I started this thread because I found out about a nasty flu in my home state - that flu turned out to be the swine flu.
Tonight I saw the message that said the lady has had a set back and has a 10% chance of making it through the night.
This is in the care thead, becasue I care about the rangers and I and hope that those reading benefit from this information.
Gwen, who is scared of what will happen in this flu season

The lady's blood pressure came back up and she survived her bad night.
She is still in critical condition.

flu shot mission complete in my house. I got my pneumonia shot too as I have had it a couple of times before. Doc said I should get it. Both arms were sore for a few days...but back to normal now. |

Good for you!
The pneumonia shot is really necessary if you get bronchial infections. It also stopped my upper sinous infections.
You can get the H1N1 shot six weeks after the normal flu shot.

It's with a heavy heart, that I report that the lady (Kitty), I have been reporting on, will be taken off life support at 3 pm Pacific time. Kitty has been unresponsive and the doctors believe she is no longer with us.
Kitty was neither young nor old. She was in her 30's and had an active lifestyle. She will be missed. My prayers are with her family and friends.
Kitty's flu was identified as the H1N1 strain. Please get the innoculation as soon as it is available. Remember that you need to wait six weeks from the first regular flu shot before you can get the H1N1 vaccine. |
