I lost a rat last night.

Marian III, my little explorer, managed to get the cage door open and got down to the ground level (the cage is 4.5 feet off the ground). Unfortunately for Marian, my dog found her.

I'm not sure if she was injured (there were no apparant injuries) or had a heart attack from the scare, but Marian didn't survive.

We've now tightened up the cage door springs, so that this doesn't happen again.

In all the years that I've had dogs (I'm on my third) and rats, this is the first accident that has happened.

Marian is the cute blue rat in my avatar.

Rest in peace Marian.

Gwen, I'm so sorry to hear about Marian.  My condolences on your loss.

Thank you Selini, for those kind words.

Robin, my black and white hooded, is currently enjoying having the cage and the food all to herself. : )

Reason: Robin loves to eat and Marian liked to *save* the food; so they argued constantly.

It will be interesting to see how Robin reacts when we get her another cagemate.

Hi Debby,

Thanks for the sympathy.

Marian used to run in her wheel all night long. Now that she's gone, I find myself missing the sound.
