Jericho - Great TV Show!

Article by Joe6pack.

Source: MySpinZone.net.

Did you guys see that show Jericho last season? Great show showing a small town surviving a wide spread terrorist nuke strike in the US. The show is filled with political intrigue. Who attacked the country, was it domestic or foreign terrorists, a military coup, China, Iran, or something else?

The show was (and still is) great. But it was canceled at the end of the season. But with the help of some loyal fans, CBS was convinced to bring it back. If you haven't seen it, go check out all the past episodes online for free! And then get read to check out the new season in Jan...

Nielsen Overnight TV Ratings for Tuesday, 10/30

Posted by Robert Seidman.

Source: TV By the Numbers.

It’s heartening after all these years that over 11 million still will turn into watch It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - still sporting one of my favorite lines in the entire history of television, “I got a rock.”

House, which I’ve watched about 35 episodes of in the last week is killing in the youth demo. CBS has way more viewers than NBC, but for the night, they tied in the 18-49 demo, and that’s with NBC airing a rerun of Law & Order: SVU (a Gorman favorite) allowing Boston Legal (another Seidman favorite) to capture a rare timeslot win.

CBS and Social Media

Posted by Jericho Saved.

Source: Jericho Central.

While we’re unleashing our lawyers on social networks with slips of paper with big words like “copyright infringement”, we’re also taking in huge new audiences on air and online — social media is actually helping our bottom line. How much? In one major broadcaster’s case, an additional 200,000 viewers in just one month. That company even let their growth secret out of the bag, “YouTube has brought a significant new audience of viewers to each broadcast.” Naughty CBS! They shouldn’t go running their mouths like that.

Confessions of a Jericho Fan

Review by Reihan Salam.

Source: Slate.com.

Future historians of pop detritus will spend countless hours poring over old episodes of Lost, the challenging, intricate action-drama that briefly promised to transform network television for the better. Its genre-defying debut in 2004 marked a cultural watershed, and its massive early success forced every other network to react. And so, one can only assume, some genius at CBS figured, "Why don't we take Lost and set it in small-town Kansas! Better still, why don't we save some money and give it production values that make the show look like early MacGyver?" The result of this inspired musing was Jericho, a post-apocalyptic soap opera that's just been released on DVD.

Dancing with the Stars is the top show, and Samantha Who? is the top comedy. A good night for ABC. Heroes is still strong with the 18-49 crowd but Chuck did nothing to improve it’s status and Journeyman is hurting bigtime — perhaps they could do a show where Dan travels back to earlier in 2007 and convinces the NBC brass to produce better scripts.

"Hey Nielsen" What About the Books?

Posted by Personanondata.

Source: personanondata.blogsport.com.

Nielsen is capturing the true voice of the consumer with the launch of their new “Hey Nielsen” social networking website. Designed to capture consumers immediate reactions to television, movie and music programming, the site launched in beta a few weeks ago. Nielsen is the market researcher most responsible for what we end up watching, listening to and going to see. They are not necessarily responsible for what we read however, but more on that later. Nielsen hopes that the Hey Nielsen site becomes the social monitor for all pop culture although my initial experimentation with the site seems to indicate that most people are focused on television.

CBS' Risk Taking Tanks

Article by A. J. Frutkin.

Source: Mediawwek.

On the strength of its returning series, CBS remains first among the broadcast networks in total viewers this season. But the net's new shows have underperformed, contributing to a third-place standing among adults 18-49.

Whatever makes air next season, Tassler said, an increasingly fractured media pie may demand that all broadcasters come up with new methods of measurement. Between online streaming and increased DVR penetration bleeding off live TV viewers, she added, "I think we really need to examine—and redefine—what is a good number."

So, if you haven’t heard about the CBS show Jericho, then you must be living on an island, because it is one of the best shows on television. It takes place in the small town of Jericho, kansas. There is a nuclear attack on the United States. Imagine a nuclear 9/11 happening in the ~15 biggest cities in the US, all in the same day.

As a result, the United States is basically shut down and communities have to suddenly find a way to survive on what they have locally. No electricity. Little gas. Very little food. Nobody knows if the President, Congress, Governors are still alive. Chaos.

Guiding Principles for the Return of CBS’ “Jericho”

Article by Myles McNutt.

Perhaps proving I'm forever incapable of forgetting about Jericho, my mind immediately turned to what I would write for today, Jericho Digg Day. Terocious at Jericho Junction was kind enough to organize this, and I wanted to provide something with real value for Jericho fans to think about. As a result, I have decided to craft a series of guiding principles that CBS and fans should follow when Jericho finally returns to television at some point in the next number of months. I believe that, if these guidelines are followed, the show has a great chance of success, and that the fans have the potential to get the 3rd season they deserve.

CBS won this ho-hum (in terms of number of viewers) night of television. Women’s Murder Club vs. Moonlight is turning into an interesting competition with the hot maturing policewomen having more viewers than the metrosexual vampire - but the metrosexual vampire won the 18-49 demo. Fox’s Next Great American Band is not resonating with viewers and The CW spends a night out of the cellar.

Alicia Coppola Talks 'Jericho,' which Still Awaits its Airdate

Article by Rosario Santiago.

When CBS pulled the plug on the musical drama, Viva Laughlin, after abysmal ratings following its first two installments, many followers of CBS' returning Jericho hoped that the Skeet Ulrich-led piece would finally air as its replacement. After all, didn't its producers say that timing is of the essence if Jericho is to gain enough strength and momentum to show the network it is worthy of a full second season?

In any case, The Amazing Race is filling the void left by Viva Laughlin and Jericho, which has finished filming its seven episodes, continues to await its airdate. In the meantime, here's a nice little interview with one of Jericho's stars, Alicia Coppola, who spoke to Jericho on CBS.

Jericho: How to Digg

Posted by Jericho Saved.

Source: Arabelle's Alley.

Jericho Digg Day- Oct. 28th

Why is Digg so important to Jericho?

Once a submission has earned a critical mass of Diggs, it becomes “popular” and jumps to the homepage in its category. If it becomes one of the most popular, it qualifies as a “Top 10”. If a submission doesn't receive enough Diggs within a certain time period, it eventually falls out of the “Upcoming” section.
The system only works when users actively participate on a large scale, so make sure to do your part and Digg content that matters to you!

Basically, the more Diggs a Jericho article gets the more people who will see it. I'm not talking about 10, 50, or even 100 Diggs-we need thousands. Do you want CBS to stand up and notice us again? Do you want to support the cast and crew of Jericho? Do you want more viewers? Here's a simple way to do all that and more.

The shortcomings of the rating system as offered by Nielsen Media Research has become a popular target for television fans. And for good reason. However, if there is one thing Nielsen has been doing right, it is listening to consumers.

Recently, they told networks that they would no longer combine two airings of the same show. And, they are allowing longer time periods to count DVR viewers, which has increased some show's ratings as much as five percent. Both moves came out of public outcry.

Viewers' shifting habits redefine 'TV hit'

Article by Gary Levin.

Source: USA Today.

In the new world we live in, that kind of cultural permeation — the awareness that's greater than the numbers indicate — speaks to the potential for growth of the show," says Gossip executive producer Josh Schwartz. It suggests that "people are watching, maybe in non-traditional ways."

The 'Jericho' model

The pattern followed last year's surprise resurrection of CBS drama Jericho, which was granted a seven-episode reprieve (due early next year). In a campaign to save the show, dedicated fans sent cartons of nuts to network executives — who were nonetheless more impressed by the 5.3 million episodes that were streamed online.

In making decisions on which shows to renew or cancel, "you have to consider what's on these other platforms," says CBS Paramount Television chief Nancy Tellem. "We're trying to reach as many viewers as we can, no matter how it comes in. The frustration is making sure all of it gets counted."

Jericho on Nielsen Survey Question

Posted by paikeingel on IMDB board, link posted by classictvnut at the CBS board.

I belong to a survey group for Nielsen. In the last month, they have sent 14 surveys about new shows this season. Well, today's survey had an interesting series of questions.

They asked if I had heard about a show that was canceled and which was renewed after fans fought back. DUH!! And, if I knew the show's name . . . Well, after a few more questions, I got this :

"Please indicate which of the following programs you would be most likely to watch on Sunday evenings at 8PM (7PM Pacific and Mountain Time).

A. Life Is Wild on the CW
B. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC
C. Jericho on CBS
D. The Simpsons and King of the Hill on Fox
E. NFL Football on NBC
F. Something else
G. I will not watch TV at that time"

I know CBS uses data through these surveys, because I was recruited to take these surveys at a testing location solely for CBS. So, it looks like they're testing to see if Sundays at 7/8 PM will work.

So, Jericho fans . . . would this be a good time?

If this is the case, I could see this being a good time. I don't know anything about Life is Wild. It seems like some Jericho fans would be the same ones who would watch Extreme Makeover. I can't see Simpson/King of the Hill or Football interfering. Am I wrong though? Perhaps I'm not totally in touch with the Jericho demographic. I would just like to see it not interfere with Desperate Housewives (though I think that show is losing viewers with each year).

The Amazing Race is the most likely candidate to take over the 8 pm slot on November 4. While CBS has new episodes of Jericho ready to go, the network is leaning toward launching it later this season rather than use it as a Laughlin replacement.

Jericho Article in TV Guide

Article by Stephen Battaglio.

Source: TV Guide.

Issue: Oct. 29 - Nov. 4, 2007.

Jericho #1 in Top 10 Stories, page 10 (full page article with four photos).

"The wait will soon be over for Jericho fans. Expect the drama about America's favorite post-nuclear holocaust survivors to return to CBS by January, says executive producer Carol Barbee. The story planned for a full second season has been packed into the seven episodes ordered by the network and Barbee promises they won't dissapoint those looking for answers about the nuclear attack. "By the end, you'll know who did this, why they did this, what their plan is and who is gong to prevail," she says. The action picks up with Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) looking to seek revenge on Constantino for having killed his father. But Jake will have a new nemesis in Major Beck (Easi Morales), who has been sent by the new government in Cheyenne to put an end to the feud with New Bern. "It's about who is going to control the town," Barbee says. "Beck or Jake." This means war!"

Jericho Season 1 DVD Review

Article by Ron Martin.

Source: 411mania.com.

Nuts! Is the first season of Jericho worth the investment? Is it worth all the nuts? A complete season one recap/review lies inside.

I can sum up the first season of Jericho in three words: Solid, but unspectacular. This shows in most every aspect of the show. Skeet Ulrich is the perfect actor to play Jake Green, the hero of Jericho. Skeet has never offended anyone with his acting, but he has never blown anyone away with it either. He’s always been solid, but unspectacular. You can put any say that about any member of the cast. Ditto the writing. The idea for the show is a novel one and I was kind of excited when I heard the premise. The dialogue, however, ranges from pedestrian and predictable to downright terrible when the writers try to get cute. When the writing concentrates on the matter at hand, it’s very businesslike. While it’s not good for the soundbites, it moves the story along. It takes a good half of the season for the story to actually hook you. If you purchase the Season 1 set, you’ll probably start watching them slowly, one episode at a time until around the middle of disc three. Then look for some marathon sessions.

Jericho - Season One: DVD Review

Review by Sgt. Mom.

Source: Blogger News Network.

I have now come to that stage of life where I have seen every standard TV plot so many times that I am now able to predict the denouement almost as soon as I see the setup and have declared a personal embargo on watching any more shows about doctors, lawyers or cops. While some of the current offerings (House, Scrubs, etc) are quite passable – there are other occupations, and other situations which in the hands of the creative, will offer sufficient interest to keep viewers returning on a regular basis. Shows like “Lost” and “Ugly Betty” are splendid examples of what can be done by stepping outside of the cop-lawyer-doc box, and “Jericho – Season One” is another. Take an intriguing and (for television) a semi-original situation, involve a large cast of interesting people reacting to it and voila – something that will bring back the audience, over and over. Especially when it is a situation that we might imagine happening to ourselves. After 9/11, and Katrina (which provided the genesis of “Jericho” to its creators) it is all to easy to imagine what happens when the world we know suddenly ends, right in the middle of all our mundane plans for a perfectly ordinary day.

Already obvious that Gerald McRaney was not going to return as Johnston Green following his character's death in the first season finale, his grieving widow -- who many viewers connected with during the course of the show's initial episode order -- is getting the boot right behind him as CBS has not offered actress Pamela Reed a contract.

"It is almost impossible to look at the history of this show and deduce that it has been handled anything but badly from the very beginning. Of late CBS has exhibited more poor decision making by placing the summer re-runs on a Friday night where they were almost certain to be preempted by pre-season football. These re-runs were supposed to introduce a whole new audience to the serial drama and the fans told their families, friends and whomever would listen to watch creating a troubling scenario."

Sound Off! Week - Hey! Nielsen - Is it Making a Difference?

Article by Myles McNutt.

Source: Cultural Learnings.

The reality is that Hey! Nielsen is a social networking site with a purpose: to better inform the Nielsen Company and their advertisers/partners about what parts of television, movies, etc. are most popular. The site is sold as a way to take the example of Jericho’s fandom to the next level, and this is why Jericho and Supernatural fans rushed to the new medium.

But the problem that the site faces is that it has no proof (as of this writing) that this is actually making a difference.

The good news for CBS is that lots of people love its shows, the bad news is many of them are 55 and over and the advertisers don’t want to pay for those folks. Thursday continues to be “TV Night in America” with Grey’s Anatomy reeling in 18.65m viewers and a very impressive 7.7/18 in the 18-49 demo. CBS’ CSI had more viewers, 19.63m, and a nice, but not as nice as Grey’s 6.0/14 in the demo.

Sound Off! Week - Hey! Nielsen - The Spamming Question

Article by Myles McNutt.

Source: Cultural Learnings.

With a confusing system and a new form of social networking, the right way to go about getting used to Hey! Nielsen is taking one’s time. You step back, view the situation, and based on that engage the new medium with a fresh eye.

But fan movements aren’t about taking their time: for better or for worse, they are about mass movement and mass impact, something rarely associated with stopping to smell the roses. The result was a huge swarm of Jericho and Supernatural fans as they rose to the top of the charts, which is seemingly “good” based on the site’s attempt at measuring fandom. However, it was clear that in the hustle and bustle there had arisen some hard feelings. Jericho and Supernatural fans were labeled “spammers,” flooding the site with too many opinions and only focusing on a single series.

Nielsen Caves On 'Heroes' Loophole, Remains Committed To Multiplatform Ratings

Article by Joe Mandese.

Source: Media Daily News.

IN A RARE ACT OF public contrition, Nielsen backed off a controversial loophole enabling broadcast networks to report a single, unduplicated audience rating for programs that air multiple times with their commercials intact. The decision followed weeks of outcry from cable networks, some broadcasters and ad executives that the change, effective with the launch of the new broadcast season, was not equitable to some clients, and obfuscated the audience results of the individual airings of those episodes. But the decision is likely a temporary reprieve as Nielsen executives remain committed to finding new ways of integrating and aggregating audience data across the multiple platforms and occurrences that TV programming increasingly is viewed on. "At some point in the night too distant future this is going to be the rule, rather than the exception," predicts Brad Adgate, senior vice president-corporate research director at big TV buying agency Horizon Media Inc. "People are going to want to see a single net rating for all the platforms a program airs on."

Nielsen Rescinds a New Ratings Policy

Article by Brian Stelter.

Source: New York Times.

A recent Nielsen rule change allowed NBC last month to report two separate broadcasts of “Heroes” as one cumulative rating, which was thought to be a more accurate assessment of the show’s audience. But the single rating for two airings of the show angered rival networks and media buyers, who complained loudly to Nielsen.

Today Nielsen reversed the policy, stating that “if a broadcast network re-airs the same episode, then ratings for both the original and the repeat will be reported.”

DVRs Screw up Nielsen; Commericials Now Rated Too

Article by Wilson Rothman.

Source: Gizmodo.

You knew it would happen: DVRs are finally breaking down the TV ratings system.

Because DVRs make skipping over commercials so easy, Nielsen is now rating commercials themselves, based in part on how often people stop fast-forwarding and watch them. According to a New York Times report, DVRs have also affected show ratings themselves: after a single night, a show like How I Met Your Mother might have a 2.7, but by the end of the week, when everyone with a DVR has watched it, the rating might be much higher, at 4.1. The trouble is, both of these new ratings take weeks to process.

Many people have never heard of it, it only scraped by to manage a second season (which premieres in January 2008) and its subject matter isn't exactly cheerful, but Jericho, about a town that must come together after most of the United States is ravaged by nuclear war, is an effective drama-thriller that people should certainly check out on DVD (the first season was just recently released).

So, I found this article (there are more like it) that says, "Jericho" fan Jeff Knoll helped coordinate with Braverman to get Nuts Online to serve as a distributor. Knoll was one of the originators of the campaign, and his biggest hope is that the network pays attention."

“Jericho” Could Get An Early Second Season

Post by Sam.

Fans of “Jericho,” the post-apocalyptic show saved by 40,000 pounds of peanuts may see its return to the small screen sooner than was originaly slated.

The show was to return with an abbreviated 7-episode second season as a mid-season replacement in 2008. While that still could be the case, Kelly Kahl, the head of CBS program scheduling, says the shows return could occur as early as November, according to reports from IGN.

Did You Forget Jericho? - DVD News

Article by Rafe Telsch.

Source: Cinema Blend.

The first season of Jericho hit DVD this week but you’d never know it looking around. Considering all the fuss that surrounded the series a couple of months ago, I would have expected parades, national news coverage, and a hard press by CBS that included banner ads during all of their shows, every other commercial spot, and integration into their other programming (“Hey, I know we’re always sitting around a bar and chatting but did any of you get a chance to check out season one of Jericho? It’s Legendary!). Instead, word surrounding the release is as quiet as if it really was isolated from the rest of the world

"Jericho" Actress Sprague Grayden: Talks Fans, Nielsen Ratings

Article by Jim Roberts.

Source: National Ledger.

Fans revolted and saved the CBS doomsday scenario series "Jericho." But a storyline and a series that could have grown will be hampered a bit by the "save" as only seven episodes will be broadcast. The show was cancelled after last season and fans that loved the show so much they mounted campaigns and harassed CBS execs into bailing out the program. Buddy TV notes that actress Sprague Grayden (Heather Lisinki) realizes the fans saved her job and a great series.

DVDeez Review: Jericho Season One

Review by Michael Dayspring.

Source: ESB.net.

I guess if you were to describe this show you could probably do so by saying it’s like 24 meets Lost..with Skeet Ulrich. But that does the show quite a bit of disservice actually. Sure it has the political intrigue of 24 and the people trapped/stranded dilemma’s of Lost…and it does have Skeet, but it has something else you might not expect of a mashed up show like this; good writing and decent characters. Sure there are some major misfires in the season and sometimes its just downright hum drum, but half way through the season you can really see where they figured out the kinks and the show really started to pop (partially by killing off dead weight characters and plot lines), by the time you get to the end you really find yourself rooting for these small town folks.

All TV: New Nielsen measurement changes the numbers game

Article by Alan Sepinwall.

Source: NJ.com.

So I called up a contact in the executive suite at one of the networks and mentioned I was working on a generic column about the winners and losers from the first week of the TV season.
"You can't do winners and losers yet!" he barked. "We don't know (euphemism)!"

The reason the networks don't know (euphemism) yet -- why they won't for another few weeks, in fact -- is because of a new Nielsen measurement introduced this year called Live Plus Seven Days, which measures both the live viewing and any playback by a TiVo or other digital video recorder within a week after a show first airs.

In other words, if freshman efforts “Kid Nation,” “Cane,” “Moonlight” or the upcoming “Viva Laughlin” tank in the ratings, CBS is considering firing out “Jericho.”

Jericho - The First Season DVD Review

Review by Ryan Izay.

Source: Real Movie News.

Jericho is obviously feeding off of the fears since 9/11, and I suppose there are far more unhealthy ways to deal with these fears. Jericho is often an intelligent show in looking at the major changes should something like this happen. Suddenly fallout from the blast becomes an issue, as does the survival of the crops in order to last. Television, cell phones, and even the luxury of buying gas suddenly become lost. Even the rich find that they have no more power than the rest considering money has very little value in what may be a lost government. The lack of communication as the mystery slowly resolves is what makes the show interesting and suspenseful from episode to episode, although the answers are often a cheap substitute for the suspense. Each episode reveals a little more to the mystery, taking a cue from the hit show Lost, which avoids answers at all costs.

DVD Review: Jericho - The First Season

Article by Daniel Stasiewski.

Source: BlogCritics.

I ticked off a lot of people a few months back when I wrote an entry on the post-nuclear drama Jericho and its return to TV. The article started by stating that fans could agree that the first half of season one was bad. Being a fan myself and talking with other fans of the show made me believe that was a true statement.

Yet, after watching Jericho season one again on DVD, I can see why so many people were upset. From the start, Jericho is a show about the town. In spite of the bungled storylines and badly paced episodes, it is still very easy to care about the heroic inhabitants. Granted, I prefer the latter episodes, the ones that come after Jericho fully descends into a survivalist territory, but it is easy to see we would be nowhere without those initial episodes.

Jericho: The Complete First Season

Review by Don Houston.

Source: DVD Talk.

Series: Jericho: The Complete First Season comes out on DVD this coming Tuesday, the show itself having survived numerous corporate assaults and a premature cancellation. While Biblical scholars can look for obscure references in the writing to the show's episodes, let's take a quick look at the show's premise before dissecting the six disc boxed set I was sent to review. Never having seen the show for more than a couple of minutes, my two sitting marathon brought me into seeing why so many fans enjoyed the show. The premise is that in contemporary times, a terrorist plot to explode numerous nuclear weapons in large American cities succeeds; approximately 22 of the devices wreaking havoc on the population of the country during a Presidential address to Congress. This actually jumps the gun a bit since the vast majority of the show is dedicated to a small town in Kansas where a single explosion in Denver is seen on the horizon, scant evidence of another explosion in Atlanta being the only other information forthcoming (thanks to a phone call cut off). Without the power grid and satellite communications, all means of finding out what happened are lost and the people of the small community find firsthand what it is like to see the after effects of the situation.

Jericho: The First Season - DVD Review

Article by Kyle Braum.

Source: UnderGroundOnline.

"Jericho found its audience at the beginning when the bomb exploded, but lost it when the dust settled." Despite a lot of hype and buzz before its debut, Jericho kind of faded away. Last Fall season, shows either did extremely well or tanked altogether. Jericho fell somewhere in the middle. The concept was enough to garner a loyal fan base, but the overall audience numbers eroded with each episode. After the mid-season break, most of the show's support was gone, and only a few post-apocalyptic die-hards bothered to tune in on a weekly basis. Then CBS brought down the cancellation axe and all of a sudden the fans woke up from their radiation-induced slumber and picked Jericho as their "must-see" TV show. After a huge mail-in campaign by the fans to save the show, CBS caved in and gave Jericho a second season, albeit a short one with only seven episodes. Now the ball is in the fans' court.

A Chat with Skeet Ulrich

Interview by Will Harris.

Source: Bullz-Eye.

It looked for a minute there as if Skeet Ulrich was on the verge of being the new poster boy for critically acclaimed series that were cancelled too soon; he'd already had the experience with ABC's "Miracles," and, seemingly working his way down the networks alphabetically, he'd moved on to CBS and "Jericho." But to the surprise of virtually everyone...including, let's face it, most of the fans and TV critics who'd championed the show from the beginning..."Jericho" had its cancellation order cancelled. A rally cry from the season finale ("Nuts!") resulted in a hard-fought campaign which involved sending crate after crate of nuts to the CBS offices, begging them to reconsider. Whether they did so for the P.R. or not, all that matters is that "Jericho" will indeed be returning to the line-up in a few months, and during the TCA Press Tour, I was able to participate in a group discussion with Ulrich about the experience of having the show return from the dead. Since the conversation actually began as a one-on-one, however, I felt obliged to begin by mentioning that we were from the same state.

Jericho: The Complete First Season (Final Thoughts)

Review by Don Houston.

Source: DVD Talk.

Final Thoughts: Jericho: The Complete First Season had a lot of powerful themes and borrowed heavily from shows such as Red Dawn, The Day After, as well as some ideas taken from more recent events such as the Hurricane Katrina disaster that I saw firsthand. The strength of the show was largely related to the way so many miscellaneous concepts were woven together to create a tapestry where the two leads interacted with a variety of humanizing characters from their respective pasts, growing into their roles as leaders facing some seriously hard times. Jake came across as a youthful Hawkins still salvageable but well on his way to becoming as jaded and cold while Hawkins seemed to re-learn his roots thanks to his formerly lost family and the kinship of so many strangers, Jake in particular, that came together. In short, while flawed thanks to the policies of corporate sponsorship at a major broadcasting company, Jericho: The Complete First Season proved that given the right incentives, it could become the kind of show that fans always thought it could be; providing hope for the future as the show got a third life in large part due to their efforts.

Jericho: The First Season

Review by Rich Rosell.

Source: Digitally Obsessed!

A terrific premise is periodically watered down with attempts at soapy personal drama, though it seems that a multi-city nuclear attack on U.S. soil would be plenty big enough. Hokey in spots, compelling in others, engaging cast members like Lennie James override the possible lameness factor.

The series plays much better on DVD than it did when aired, and nice audio/video transfers do a good job of dressing this one up. A fan-based campaign was successful in resurrecting the show after its cancellation; perhaps there's hope for Jericho yet.

I never got a chance to watch "Jericho" when it first aired, so I was interested to see what the hype was about when it arrived on DVD. (Funnily enough, it arrived with a bag of peanuts in honor of the fans that protested its cancellation.) If I had to describe "Jericho" to someone who had never seen it before, I'd call it "Red Dawn Light." Instead of fighting the Commies, the small town folks battle each other, neighboring towns, and other threats. And rather than being a fast paced action flick, this is a rather leisurely paced character drama. I've always enjoyed post-apocalyptic adventures, so this was right up my alley. The series has a solid cast and a good premise. My only gripe about the show is the pacing. Things take a bit long to develop for my tastes. This story almost would have been better as a faster paced mini-series.
