Nielsen-Backed Group Bids For Set-Top Based TV Ratings

Article by Joe Mandese.

Source: Media Daily News.

A group backed by millions of dollars in funding from TV ratings giant Nielsen Media Research Friday invited other research companies to propose new methods for measuring television audiences based on viewing data from digital set-top boxes, an approach that would compete with Nielsen's core methods for TV audience measurement. The move comes as many in the industry, especially advertisers and agencies, are beginning to look past traditional survey-based methods of TV audience measurement, to see if data based on actually TV tuning behavior might not be a better way of determining TV advertising effectiveness.

A Tribute to General Anthony McAuliffe from International Jericho fans

Posted by staff.

Source: PR Log.

International Jericho fans organized a floral tribute to General McAuliffe. Flowers recently arrived at Bastogne  to honor this historic US General. This was a tribute to General McAuliffe who in World War 2 held off the Germans at a critical battle in Bastogne, Belgium in the Winter of 1944. When he was asked to surrender vastly outnumbered he responded “Nuts”. It was in honor of General McAuliffe in  the Season 1 Final episode of Jericho that Jake said “Nuts” when offered the chance to surrender by attacking New Bern leader Constantine. This became the battle Cry behind Save Jericho campaigns.

The Status of Jericho

Posted by Ben Hughes.

Source: Fanboy Movies.

So far, the only updates are rumors and unconfirmed reports. Basically what is happening is the studio who makes Jericho has been talking to Comcast about co-financing future episodes. Comcast would give them more money to work with, so that the studio would not have to spend as much on something they don't think will be successful. Obviously there are a bunch of fans who want the show back, so I don't see a problem with lack of audience.

CBS: Broadband Expands Programming’s Reach, Doesn’t Reduce TV Viewing

Posted by staff.

Source: ITVT.

CBS Interactive has released initial results from an ongoing study of
around 50,000 consumers who have watched full episodes of CBS
shows streamed online across its Internet distribution network, the CBS
Audience Network (note: the latter consists of around 300 partners
including TV.com, AOL, Microsoft, Yahoo, Comcast, Joost, Bebo,
Netvibes, Sling Media, Veoh, Automattic, Brightcove, Clearspring,
Goowy Media, meebo, MeeVee, Musestorm, Ning, RockYou!, Slide,
VideoEgg, Voxant and vSocial, as well as the Web sites of CBS’s own
TV, radio and affiliated stations). According to CBS, the study, which
was conducted by Magid Media Labs, demonstrates

1) that its streaming of full episodes attracts a younger audience;

2) that onlineviewers are incremental to broadcast viewers; and

3) that online video streaming actually drives Web viewers to traditional television.
