‘Jericho’ was not rebuilt in a day

'Jericho'  Was Not Rebuilt in a Day

Written by Captain Video (AKA John Stahl).

Some of you know me from my “day job” as the ranger who is the National TV on DVD Examiner for Examiner.com. In the interest of blatant self-promotion, I invite anyone who is interested in checking out my reviews of TV shows on DVD to click on this link: http://www.examiner.com/x-1124-TV-on-DVD-Examiner I will share as well that I am getting a copy of the DVD set of “Swingtown” and plan to review it in the next several weeks.

After the interim government at Examiner reminded me politely and correctly numerous times that I was not the “Jericho” Examiner and that many other shows were being released on DVD, Ratkeeper kindly granted me permission to publish my thoughts regarding this show that we love so much and want back so badly on her site.

Before getting down to sharing my thoughts du jour, I would like to ask please that I get a cool ranger name like Ratkeeper and Red Sox. Kid Video, which was the subject of my major writing project for college, or Plays with Kittens would be appropriate. I leave this matter in your capable and supportive hands.

One thing that has struck since my immersion in your incredibly great culture is that the hopes of getting more episodes, a direct-to-DVD movie, or a big-budget film truly rise and fall more than the stock market. I share the excitement of the highs and feel the pains of the lows.

I have always tried to remember that getting new stories after the really short second season will take time but have kept faith that something will happen. It seems minimally that we will get a graphic novel (a.k.a. comic book) or that “Jericho” characters will appear in another Carol Barbee or John Turteltaub production.

All of this got me thinking about how the townsfolks in “Jericho” realized that they could not rebuild their community in one day or perhaps even one year. They had to figure out the magnitude of the attack, inventory their resources, figure out how to meet the demand for food and other necessities, and solve numerous other problems.

Along the line, the characters met obstacles that I do not want to mention in case any “Jericho” virgins are reading these thoughts. Rangers know that these obstacles often set the townsfolks back one way or another. It is funny that these plots parallel the effort to have more “Jericho” stories produced.

I am confident that the fictional and real “Jericho” communities have better days ahead. There is just too much caring and love out there in both worlds for nothing better to happen.
