Goodbye, farewell: a look at series finales of '08

Article by Kat Angus.

Source: The Gazette, Montreal.

It's rare for a TV show to end on its own terms - or, at least, it's rare for a show to wrap up its storylines before being taken off the air. So when a show actually does get to produce a series finale, the writers and producers go all out, killing off characters, marrying others and, really, just cranking everything up to 11. Take a look at some of the great shows - and decidedly not-great shows - who said their goodbyes in 2008.

Editor: Jericho has a whole paragraph in this article.

A Tribute to General Anthony McAuliffe from International Jericho fans

Posted by staff.

Source: PR Log.

International Jericho fans organized a floral tribute to General McAuliffe. Flowers recently arrived at Bastogne  to honor this historic US General. This was a tribute to General McAuliffe who in World War 2 held off the Germans at a critical battle in Bastogne, Belgium in the Winter of 1944. When he was asked to surrender vastly outnumbered he responded “Nuts”. It was in honor of General McAuliffe in  the Season 1 Final episode of Jericho that Jake said “Nuts” when offered the chance to surrender by attacking New Bern leader Constantine. This became the battle Cry behind Save Jericho campaigns.

Jericho, comes the European petition

Article by staff.

Source: Fantascienza.

This is the translated text:

Not only the Americans are fighting for their favorite series. This time is to send flowers to Bastogne, Belgium. Just to bring home to CBS?

General Anthony "Nuts" McAuliffe
When the second season of Jericho was canceled, fans have launched a campaign to force CBS to reconsider. In a few weeks arrived tons of peanuts to the headquarters of the channel and managers were affected by both enthusiasm as to reconsider their decision.

Complice also strike the scriptwriters, which opened chasms in the programming schedules, CBS has given Jericho un'opportinità: two lira budget and time available worse. By networking leaked the first three episodes two months before being aired.

But Jericho went on the air the same, with seven episodes that have melted the hearts of its most loyal fans. Only those, unfortunately: bad ratings, and the dream of going forward svaniva again.

Now there is a new campaign to save Jericho, and part of Europe. This is not to send more peanuts, but to send flowers to Bastogne, Belgium. The site organizes the Spanish jerichoseries.forogeneral.es / forum / portal.php, where you can find more details.

If you are grattando the head asking why, eccolo explained: the peanuts the first year were related to a bar one of the protagonists, though vedendosi accerchiato all'intimazione yield by the enemy replied "Nuts!" American slang term that in this case could translate "with cabbage", but which in fact literally means "peanuts".

The battura of Jake Green resumed a fact happened during the Second World War, when during the Battle of Bastogne, the U.S. general Anthony C. McAuliffe, commander of airborne 101esimo, all'ultimatum of Germans said, precisely, "nuts".

For the record, the German 101esimo resisted all'assalto until reinforcements arrived, making it possible to win the battle. McAuliffe was decorated with a medal and lived until 1975.

There is to say, however, that, according to a reconstruction of the English press, the word pronounced and officially sent to the German commander was not exactly "nuts" but another word of four letters less educated (perhaps "frak"?). The version for the public was then "cleared" by the press officers of the army.

Certainly if the word had been the one that starts with where it ends with the t, the protest of American fans would have had, uhm, everything another impact ...
