Making the complete series set of "Jericho" my first choice should not surprise anyone. The program's portrayal of how realistic characters from a small town would respond to a somewhat realistic wide-spread nuclear attack presents so many topics for discussion that watching the episodes repeatedly has value; further, the ongoing nature of the story makes watching several episodes at one time very worthwhile.

I thought Jason (Rubberpoultry) might send a message out to you for me since the last time I looked, the CBS site wasn’t working. So if you’re still out there, I just wanted to wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season!!!
This message from Carol Barbee was read at the end of the Shaun Omac show 12/23/08. Thank all the fans for their support. I hope they are enjoying the CW run of Jericho and assure them we're still working on a continued life of the series. Happy Holidays to everybody. Love Carol Barbee

In thinking of a holiday gift for my fellow 'Jericho' rangers, I determined that a list of alternative concepts for the show that CBS would likely accept would hopefully bring a smile to their faces and those of the rest of you.

With the holiday, I forgot to remind everyone that Jericho is back on The CW on Sundays. Sorry, no new episodes but it’s a pretty unprecedented move for the netlet — running a defunct TV series during primetime. They aired the first episode yesterday which means next week we’ll have “Fallout.”

For being a fly-over state, my home state of Kansas seems to show up in pop-culture more than I would expect. Whether in television shows or in movies it seems Kansas serves as a kind of symbol for the Apple Pie Americana that's supposed to tug at our patriotic heartstrings. Yet whenever Kansas appears on the TV or at the cineplex, I can tell you that, having been born and raised in the Sunflower State, rarely does anyone take the time to actually ensure that Kansas as presented onscreen bears any resemblance to the real thing. Not that I can blame them, because really, it's called a fly-over state for a reason, that reason being once you venture in you might never escape. But for what it's worth, here are three misconceptions about Kansas from pop-culture.

It's rare for a TV show to end on its own terms - or, at least, it's rare for a show to wrap up its storylines before being taken off the air. So when a show actually does get to produce a series finale, the writers and producers go all out, killing off characters, marrying others and, really, just cranking everything up to 11. Take a look at some of the great shows - and decidedly not-great shows - who said their goodbyes in 2008.

It's pretty ridiculous that DVR viewing isn't really taken into account when crunching the numbers to determine ratings. Nielsen is finally sitting up and taking notice! For the first time their year-end report about which shows are most popular includes TiVo/DVR users. Number one (and two, for that matter!) is "American Idol." Not a huge shocker. But get past that, and the results are interesting.

As a young girl, Shoshannah Stern knew that she wanted to be an actress. But, as a representative of the fourth generation of a deaf family, Stern had the cards stacked high against her. However, carrying a killer smile and a positive attitude, the 28 year-old Walnut Creek native set out to take Hollywood by storm; a task that she has quietly begun to accomplish over the last several years.

Jericho fans in mourning for the show have a reason to smile again. For the second time this month, a former Jericho cast member is guest starring on the new CBS show Flashpoint! This week, Kenneth Mitchell appears as a wife-abusing cop taken hostage by an angry family member in the episode entitled "Asking for Flowers". A bit of a departure from Eric Green, huh? Mitchell says he's heard rumors of a Jericho film and he'd love to do it. Fingers crossed.

At the last MPG Collaborative Alliance (Dec. 3) EVAD Consulting's Frank Foster and Current TV's Theresa Pepe Falcone's succinct presentations focused on issues shaping audience measurement as the media community transitions to digital broadcasting. In particular, how television program viewing of the members of Nielsen Media Research's audience measurement panel, upwards of 12,000 TV households, translated into projectable program ratings. For this week's MediaPost TV Board blog I solicited written thoughts on panel vs. set top box viewing data from researchers in attendance at the last Collaborative Alliance as well as those whose opinions I respect but who could not attend in person. My goal is to proffer for public consumption an agnostic way to keep the topic of set top box data collection and panels projectables visible in the press and provide segues to hopefully generate dialogue and momentum on this crucial media topic. Thoughts, comments, noise, welcome.

To put it mildly, we stumbled upon this show on Netflix the other day and now cannot stop watching it. To meet the Internet's quota for mandatory hyperbole I'd say that it's one of the best television series I've ever seen and I cannot stop thinking about it. Yes, I even dream about it now.

I watching an episode of Threshold on Universal HD in December when an ad for the late, lamented short-lived series Jericho popped up. I thought, at first, that it was a promo for a rerun of the show on UHD. Not so. Turns out it’s part of a fan-funded and fan-produced crusade to revive the show. Its online HQ, SaveJerichoAgain.com, says that the ad also aired earlier in 2008, in June and September, in Los Angeles.
